Tomato Pots How to take care of tomato plants in pots? Some time ago, I planted tomato seeds in a saucepan. They have produced seedlings. Then I transplanted a clump of these plants. They were in a new pot for one week. just keep them watered and they have a lot of time in the sun. Plant them individually in each pot you have room .. they need not go outside until nighttime temperatures or not less than 65 degrees for a better harvest .. While inside, they need plenty of sun and bottom heat .. I go inside the plant at this time under fluorescent lights, and a blanket on the table covered with plastic to put on low heat .. He holds 80 degrees Nice and I give them 16 hours a day of light for good growth .. people are trying to transplant their tomatoes too early outside .. I'm Fllorida and will not transplant outside until the mine around the 1st of April, although it will aropund 50 degrees at night here in the middle of March .. Plant them when it is not real hot you will reduce your crop by at least 25% .. wait until the weather is good and hot .. heres pictures of my set up ... Thin to 1 or 2 plants per pot. Pots should not be tiny, or plants may become rootbound. Take them outside during the day and put them in dark. Plants need to get used to the outside. After frost danger is past to plant in a location that gets lots of sun. Depending on the type of soil, water sparingly. Too much water dilutes the taste of tomatoes. Posted on May 8, 2010.
