I agree with the soy wax is a very clean burning, but you also want to use cotton wicks or Core Paper. Zinc core wicks tend to smoke much.

In fact, this is not a chemical but rather how candles are made. They must be perfectly cast. I would try soy candles because they have much less smog, and no chemicals. Did you know that candles are petroleum products regularly, and it is the soot that you breathe.
