Single Row PlanterCharleston, South Carolina rate as a five star destination

Charleston, South Carolina rates as a five star destination. Beauty, friendliness and historical significance make this city a great place to visit.

Fort Sumter is located three miles and a half in Charleston harbor. The fort was built as a coastal defense, after the War of 1812. An early history of the civil war is in any book. We will work around this information, although very interesting.

After the surrender of Fort Union Confederation, the Union has made plans to take over the fort. When the fort was finally evacuated in 1865, it has been virtually destroyed by the constant shelling. No one lost their life through all the bombing. The single life was lost of Private Daniel Hough, while loading a gun to give a salute of one hundred guns after the resumption of the fort. He lost his arm from a premature explosion and died of exsanguination. He was buried on the parade ground, but his body was never found. Here the American flag that flew over the fort during the bombardment of origin. The gradual disappearance of the flag shows the characteristics of a Union soldier and the initials DH. The story says that the figure of the soldier Daniel Hough.

Another interesting fact is that Abner Doubleday was stationed at Fort Sumter for a time. The parade is in the form of baseball.

Fort Wagner, the film "Glory" fame is about a mile from Fort Sumter. After the EU finally captured Fort Wagner, artillery forts specialized in milling and Johnson joined in the constant bombardment of Fort Sumter. The city of Charleston has not been affected, with the exception of a few rounds Union as a form of target shooting.

The trip to and from Fort Sumter takes about quarter past two by boat. Along the way, porpoises gave a show for tourists. I think that porpoises get a kick it as far as the right people. You can boat from Charleston or warrant or the river to Mt Pleasant. We chose Mt Pleasant with its free parking.

At Patriots Point Tours are available to visit the aircraft carrier Yorktown, the destroyer Laffey, the Coast Guard Cutter Ingham and the submarine Clamagore. Starting with the claustrophobic submarine, we proceeded to visit other vessels. When we reached the Yorktown, we were surprised by its size. It is nearly three football fields in length. It's really a floating city. We spent over three hours visiting ships. We did not see everything.

Other exhibitions include support of the naval base in Vietnam, with a patrol boat of the river 31-feet, ammunition bunkers, helicopters, weapons and an observation tower. Patriots Point, where these pieces are a step back in time.

Sunday is a great day to visit downtown Charleston. spaces are very limited parking available, because of narrow streets and residential parking restrictions only. We found a space at Battery Park at the foot of Meeting Street, one of the main streets in Charleston. It was a surprise, since "Boss" is not known for its tiny size.

The city planning is based on a V, because of the confluence of the Ashley and Cooper. Meeting Street is the dividing street from which all other streets radiate. The tax legislation unique early colonial dictate how houses are built. A detached, single-family homes facing the street close with most of the home overlooking a garden. Many houses have metal rods between floors due to an earthquake in 1886, helping to keep the houses intact.

Paved roads are so bumpy that when a woman has been exaggerated to give birth, she received a dose of whiskey and a carriage ride and in the streets, until.
