PositscienceCould video games to improve your driving skills?

Nobody is a perfect conductor. But statistics show motorists carry a greater risk of getting in an accident.

Young drivers are easily distracted and inexperienced. Senior drivers are beginning to lose his physical and mental speed. But now, programs brain fitness computer are available to help refine their skills.

Take the wheel is something most of us do not think twice. But the process of maneuvering through a maze of traffic is very unpredictable complicated. Just ask Bob Parmacke. The 78-year-old has a good driving record. But the veteran driver suspected of vision and reaction time have begun to slow. Then he turned to his computer and has invested in a program called DriveSharp. Parmacke said the games he plays on the screen working eyes and reaction time and help sharpen their driving skills.

"You see these signs in the corner. I see more I see a greater range I think, "says Parmacek.

The program aims to DriveSharp drivers 50 and older. It includes two exercises for the brain to work on divided attention and useful field of view. This is what a person sees in a glance, without moving his head.

In one exercise, you must find hidden treasures in the jellyfish moving around. The games get harder as the player goes better.

Maker PositScience says the program is scientifically proven and is based on research to help drivers learn more and react more quickly in hopes of preventing accidents.

"After thousands of people over five years, we have shown that we can reduce their risk of injury to the fault in half and this change will be sustainable over a couple," said Steve Aldrich, Chief Officer, PositScience.

AAA approves the product and the offer to members at a reduced rate. Another company Cognifit has an online program for the elderly and young drivers is now in training for skills such as distance estimation, response time, and divided attention.

Researchers at the UIC study conducted in the elderly say, even in our 20s, our eyes begin to change we begin to lose our critical field of view useful. They are not ready to weigh on these computer games, but stressed that cognitive abilities are only part of the driving ability.

"Driving is a very complex thing," said Kinsuka Maitra, PhD, OT, Rush University Medical Center.

Neurologist Richard Kraig, University of Chicago Medical Center says there is more clinical evidence, the work of computer games. He says that these games tend to hinder the brain in the right direction which in turn promotes the secretion of chemicals, helping to run a little better as the exercise of a muscle. The researcher's brain is not surprised Bob Parmacek now feel a greater awareness on the road.

"What happened in practice, he woke up the brain circuits that give his consciousness more quickly," said Dr. Kraig.

My field of vision, even just looking straight ahead, I see more, "says Parmacek." I think I'll probably be a safer driver. "

A recent study in the journal Nature found online games to improve cognitive skills * * does not make people smarter. Other researchers say there is still Littl.
