Large Contemporary Mirrors

Large Contemporary MirrorsHow can I make my small living room look larger?

I rented an apartment for a year, so we can not paint the walls (right know they off-white/white). I heard of mirrors can make a room look bigger, but do they serve a huge, or do some work too few? also, what type of furniture and color should I expect? i like a modern / contemporary, clean (and a little feminine look). Thank you:)

You can do many things to make the room look more ... and you have a good start ...... Light colored walls make the room appear larger.
Mirrors ------------------
Yes, mirrors make the room appear larger and the look can be achieved in several ways. I really prefer the floor to ceiling ---> wall to wall mirror look. To me it looks like a 'cheap trick'. Instead of concentrating on the implementation .... the mirrors at eye level .... Perhaps a mirror is two feet long and extends from one wall to the place from floor to ceiling.
Furniture ------------------
In addition, small furniture store so it will be balanced with the room. Maybe choose a love seat instead of a bed size .... Small accent chairs instead of a large armchair bulky. If you want the comfort of a chair, but want to stay away from mass .... choose a Glider Rocker with ottoman. They are very comforatable.
Scale ----------------------------
The key is to scale furniture downnnnnnnn .... if it doesn't look like your trying to put everything in the room.
Windows -------------------
Enjoy all the windows you have in the room. Keep it light and airy to light pours into the room.
Lighting --------------------
In addition, point lights up on the ceiling lamps, wall ...... the brightest, the ceiling is .... the largest space opens. Turn the lights near the four corners of the room will keep the room appear as "closing in '.
Floor lamps can be very effective.
Colors -----------------
Since everything is so light and bright in the room .... you'll need to anchor the room so it does not float away. I mean ..... add a little drama in a way. This could be a work of dramatic art, (does not need to be big) and would be something that catches the eye and causes a tragedy in the room. Ideas: A fountain, a work for the walls, a piece of sculpture, something you do yourself, an interesting plant. Something that makes people say, "Wow, or cool, where did you do that?"

Good luck with your room, I know it looks great! : O)

your warm welcome .... Your room will be great .... while having fun! : O) Report Abuse

Mirrors are good, no matter if its only a few large or very little. lighter colors for your curtains, sofa, etc. .. make a room feel larger, too. hgtv.com has much to offer to your question as well. luck.

use light colors

futon looks badly done and I think you will find the same style with a better mattress for not much more that is done better. Over the mirror, the better it works or take the 4 x 1.5 feet or so up at Walmart mirrors are like $ 10, to senior offstack end to a large mirror and build a wood frame or use clear to the corner hangers and mirrors to several non-frames in different parts of the room where they do not reflect too well out of eachother, but they could then you will see 5,000 of the same every time you turn around

Well, if you want a room look bigger you need to get small things and not too much. Get a free sofa loveseat. Get a table lower. A lamp and a table lamp. But the only thing you want is a BIG picture or as you said a mirror. Plants should also be kept so small.
