How can I cure jet lag for my children and me? My children and I flew from Shanghai, China four days ago and have suffered ill effects of jet lag. Any ideas to cure the symptoms of jet lag for children and adults?
I am a former boarding Flight Attendant and I fly zones nine times with my three children a lot. We are currently jet lag a bit more than our last trip ...
First, you get a calendar that looks like your new time zone. I use 5-10am to get up and 8-midnight for bed. Once you are on a calendar so you can roll forward or backward, depending on circumstances. Set an alarm if necessary (9.30, I recommend you and you're by 10).
At bedtime, or just before, stop all "screens" (PC, DS, TV, etc.) Keep the lights low and head of the children in Slumberland, even if they say that they do not feel like it. Read a little, or whatever your bedtime routine is, and turn off the light.
If someone has to get up at night, have a nightlight in the bathroom. Keep snacks not too sweet or salty available. Remember that your stomach too, must adapt. I want a full meal at 2am! A quick bagel and a glass of milk send me back to Slumberland. Again, do not fire quite hard in the kitchen. Stay calm and as dark as possible.
Do not wake up and turn on the TV or computer. This is the worst thing you can do. This suppresses the melatonin your body needs to readjust.

You can take melatonin in pill form, but I did not give it to my children. It can cause nightmares. Talk to a doctor before giving them anything.
Make sure you all are drinking enough. dehydrated long flight and the symptoms are similar. The two can work together to make you feel rough.
During the day, leave the house. Move and into the sunlight. What worked this time was to take my children to the pool (although there was cranky). However, it remained in place and went to sleep at bedtime that day. A shopping center is good in bad weather.
Stay away from beds hug you to lie in them!
Sometimes you can not avoid a nap. If you or your children to do, I do not recommend, but keep it within two hours, and only if bedtime is more than four hours away.
Eat all meals at the "normal" time for the new time zone. Even if they opt for it, insist that they eat a little.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Drink water instead of soft drinks or beverages containing caffeine, and not force yourself to take a nap so you go to bed at a "normal" hour.
I read somewhere that it takes 1 day for every time zone you cross to recover from jet lag, so do not be surprised if you still feel after a few days late. Give him time.
If you still feel in time about a week from now, an appointment with your doctor - you * could have picked something while in China (it is unlikely but not impossible).
give him the injection permidemyn ...
