A profile of Peter Kotka

I started painting full time during the 1980s. I took the time to read about the artists and their techniques and was inspired by the landscape paintings of John Constable. Infact, it was time well spent as many years later, I copied the gendarmes Haywain for an American client, half-size.

After some surprising success of a gallery, and early commissioning of the works that sold quickly, and successful exhibitions followed my career started. I explored different techniques and follow the style detailed, such as that of the Dutch landscape painters of the 16th century, Jacob van Ruysdael in particular. Royal Doulton also asked to paint a series of drawings for the collector plates entitled "Harvest Home" and many card designs to Hallmark and follow Polytint. I also started to take a job teaching adult education with a local college and the classes proved so popular that I still run local classes to date. Sometimes painting holidays, at the request, tailor are organized for small groups of artists in the fields of fine wines from England, France and the United States.

I decided to find a new challenge and direction and focused on building "still life painting" that specializes in wine, which was also something that I began to take an interest in. I developed a unique blend of working with both contemporary and traditional styles, colors and techniques, and it gives my paintings an individuality, details and atmosphere. I'm not trying to recreate a photographic style as others in the area. For me, art should be art and creativity even in realism and the envelope must each work in a different way and is an exploration of an idea.

In 2004 I was invited to take part in a prestigious exhibition Still Life in California, where I was successful artist in the show. I continued to paint fine wines in a style still life and have gained much acclaim and recognition for my work.
