Debbie Travis Paint

Can I undercoat using primers titnted in the same color as the paint suede intead of flat paint in the paint suede. Primer is cheaper and I think it can be tinted the same color. If yes, do I get the color of one or Darder bit lighter than the paint suede? The walls are now painted with a matt black paint, close to the color of the suede news I want to put on the walls.
