Concrete Planter Boxes

Concrete Planter BoxesHow do I plant flowers in my planter box?

I have a box of 8x13 concrete planter outside my house. I've never planted flowers before, so I have no idea what it takes to create a beautiful garden. What are the flowers that look good together and how do I plant them? I want to make a bouquet of flowers in bright colors. I need a design and also need to know how far I plant each flower. If anything can come up with ideas, please let me know.

The best advice I starts with a few questions:
1) What kind of dirt is in the planter box and how is it changed.
2) Where are you? What area? that the growth area? this micro-climate?
3) When the hot earth in your area and when the first frost?
4) When the sun shines on this box, when can we stop shining?
5) Do you want to plant perennial or annual?
6) Do you want flowers just beautiful? attract bees and butterflies flowers? edible flowers mixed with herbs?
7) Do you want to be able to quickly change the flowers as they age and lose their flowers?
8) Will you be able to have flowers flowers would be high or shorter work best? " Do you want plants that will spread over the edges to soften the appearance of the box?

All these questions will help you plan your flower bed. Personally, I prefer a mixture of herbs and edible flowers. I think that a bed should have multiple uses, not just a pretty only. Choose more flowers for the back of the box, ran to the front. Choose a complementary color palate for your home and your region. Plant some annual flowers in the mud of their nursery containers so you can remove and replace easily. Study the pattern of growth of your plants ... and plants depending on what size and how they will spread. Plan use of mulch color around the bottom of the plants to protect soil and to allow the soil to retain water longer, making the bed the most beautiful flower.

Ask questions of your local garden club and your local nursery. I do.

I am in the south south-central Texas. You'll want to check the soil in the "box" at the bottom. There are a lot of clay in our soil and the soil can be ammending first necessary to make plants grow easier. Add and mix in a good top soil humus (foam, etc.) will be needed. Report Abuse
