Black Mirrors

Black MirrorsThe truth about Pure Black and other functions of your screen LED

In the past, we discussed some basic information on LED technology. So just to summarize in case you missed anything, here is a brief summary:

* LED = a semiconductor that emits light
* Pixel = Point light base, which may contain one or more LEDs
* Pitch = distance between pixels in millimeters
* Pure white = perfect balance of red, green and blue
* Viewing a minimum distance (MVD) = The closest you can get the image appears before pixelated. The type of screen, and the type of displayed content, plays a role here.
* LED screen = smaller modules (4 * 4 cm to 1 * 1m) assembled
* Colors available = up to 280 trillion (65,000 * 65,000 * 65,000).
* Gamma Correction = exponential correction needed to adjust the color vision of the human eye logarithmic

Now, let's take a deeper look into other characteristics that define the quality of an LED screen. We have repeatedly mentioned the importance of having a pure white (the perfect balance of red, green and blue) to get the best image quality. See now the importance of having a pure black.

How can you get a pure black on a LED screen? Well, you do so by turning off the lights. Pretty easy, huh? Actually, no. The biggest problem in getting a pure black with an LED display is the fact that you do not get the LED to black. In fact, if all the lights are off, you can not count on your advanced electronic control system.

So how do you do? You ask the mechanical engineer - Unbelievable but true. Obtaining a pure black is a matter of mechanical structure of the LED screen. Indeed, the pure black depends entirely on the surface can get dark when the screen is off.

Believe me, it is not easy. The main complication is that this large area will always be a reflection factor, which means that if you're not careful, you could find yourself with a huge black mirror when you turn off the screen. Therefore, the design of the front LED walls is so important, because it must be dark without being flat and reflective as a mirror.

Why, exactly, is pure black so important? Because it defines the levels of contrast LED screen. The level of contrast is the difference between the light emitted by the screen and the light reflected from the surface environment of the screen. Minor is the reflected light, more contrast and, consequently, the depth of color and natural images.

To increase the contrast level and professional manufacturers of LED screens including brochures provide anti-reflex that separates the light and do not take into account, increase the visibility of the screen even in direct sunlight. The contrast level of an LED display is a fundamental factor to consider, especially during major events broadcast on television.

What do you know when the broadcast of a live event on your LED screen? First, the refresh rate LED wall. The refresh rate indicates how many times the image is updated every second. For example, a PC monitor has a refresh rate of 72Hz and, therefore, refreshing all pixels of the screen from top to bottom, 72 times per second. To give a comparison, most TV monitors have a refresh rate of 50Hz and only a few products of the past generation have a refresh rate of 100Hz.

Professional LED displays have a refresh rate of 240Hz minimum, which is almost triple that of most advanced television screens. The refresh rate is crucial because it determines the image quality: if it is too low, the LED screen will display an image flickering when recorded by a professional camera. Some manufacturers offer a refresh rate higher than 2000Hz to meet the requirements of the broadcasting industry, particularly important f.
