Binary Clocks

Binary ClocksMake a project that uses binary numbers?

Hello I need to do a project that deals with binary numbers. I am open to any creative idea that could possibly use these binary numbers. All but a few simple circuits with binary clocks, or other creative ways we could implement binary numbers in a cool project.

How about this. Take a number of binary counters and daisy chain them so that you say 32 or 40 bits. Add LED driver for each bit so that you have 32 or 40 LEDs in a row. Use a 1 MHz clock to feed your binary counter. Start a stopwatch when you start counting. All LEDs will be when you start. The first dozen or so LEDs will be a blur they change so quickly. Then you can start to see some who are switching very fast and then slower and slower as you move to more significant bits. And finally, the most significant bits can take days or weeks to switch. A fun experience that has a simple display and nice and not too difficult to do. The timer will give you an idea of how much time elapsed between the time you started the experiment.

Hope this helps
